Psychology Appointments

Psychological Therapy

Dr. Sheena Burke offers a mindfulness psychology service to adults and adolescents (16+ years and with parental consent).

Mindfulness-informed cognitive-behaviour therapy, humanistic, somatic, relational, and psychodynamic therapeutic principles inform individual psychological consultations and therapy sessions.

Services are available in person in Mullingar and online (often referred to as ‘teletherapy’).

One of the approaches I offer is called ‘DNA-V’ which is a therapeutic approach designed to help young people to thrive and have greater psychological flexibility and strength. This approach offers an integration of acceptance and commitment therapy, mindfulness and positive psychology and the effective elements found in all therapies and psychological intervention.

Service Protocol

Following an initial review of needs, we agree to an individualised approach that is informed by an integration of my clinical and educational psychology and specialist mindfulness training and experience. Individual consultation allows for a more personalised approach to group programs and can support the sensitive adaptation and integration of practices and teachings.

Emergency services are not provided nor conditions that are best served by multidisciplinary care. Any immediate concern for your health and safety must be brought to the attention of your GP or local A&E Department.

All information provided by clients is held with privacy and confidentiality, abiding by GDPR (2016) requirements. There will be no disclosure of information shared without express permission of the client or as required by law.  The limits to confidentiality extend to any concerns of harm/safety to the client or others and such information may be shared with relevant professionals as required by law.

Clients are expected to attend regular sessions as agreed and require a minimum 24 hour notice for cancellation and reschedule. Appointments that are cancelled in less than 24 hours will require payment.

The 2022 fee for individual consultations is €95 per 60 minute session. This fee may be eligible for health insurance claims, depending on your specific plan.

Payments for services are required within 24 hours of sessions.

Online Therapy

Online services are provided through interactive internet technologies where we are not in the same physical room together.

There are both pros and cons to online therapy services: as we are not in the same physical room and so clients are expected to ensure they create a safe space where they can engage in the sessions in a confidential and honest manner.  Not being in the same physical space, means a lack of access to information that might be available and may result in errors of judgement. A comprehensive assessment of needs is not provided. Online services are provided using a videoconferencing platform that is GDPR and HIPAA compliant.

“Before every session, I take a moment to remember my humanity. There is no experience that you have that I cannot share with you, no fear that I cannot understand, no suffering that I cannot care about, because I too am human.

No matter how deep your wound, you do not need to be ashamed in front of me. I too am vulnerable. And because of this, I am enough. Whatever your story, you no longer need to be alone with it.

This is what will allow the healing to begin.”
