Psychology Appointments

Psychological Therapy

Dr. Sheena Burke offers a mindfulness psychology service to adults and older adolescents (16+ years and with parental consent).

Services are available in person in Mullingar and online (often referred to as ‘teletherapy’).

As a Chartered Clinical Psychologist with a PhD in Educational Psychology  and Certified in Mindfulness Teaching, Training & Supervision (MBSR) I offer an integrative psychology therapy and consultation that is responsive and appropriate to individual client need.

Sessions draw from my extensive training and experience in mindfulness-informed cognitive-behaviour therapy (CBT), eye-movement desensitisation (EMD/R), humanistic, somatic, relational and psychodynamic therapeutic principles.

A Flexible Approach

CBT

Mindfulness-Informed Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (MI-CBT) combines cognitive behavioural therapy and mindfulness practices to enhance the effectiveness of traditional CBT techniques. This evidence-based approach recognises the value of including mindfulness as a skilful tool for self-awareness, emotional regulation, and overall well-being.

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a type of therapy that helps people who have been through distressing experiences. It involves recalling early memories while doing specific eye movements or other types of rhythmic stimulation. This process helps the brain process the memories in a healthier way, reducing their emotional impact and making them easier to manage. This technique can be helpful with challenges arising from trauma, anxiety, depression, negative self-talk and relationship issues.

DNA-V

This is a therapeutic approach designed to help young people to thrive and have greater psychological flexibility and strength. It offers a combination of acceptance and commitment therapy, mindfulness and positive psychology and the effective elements found in all therapies and psychological intervention.

Service Protocol

First Appointment

When we meet for our first appointment, we will complete an initial review of needs together. From here we agree to an individualised proposal. This is informed by an integration of my clinical and educational psychology and specialist mindfulness training and experience.

Emergency services are not provided nor requests that are best served by multidisciplinary care. If you have any immediate concern for your health and safety, this must be brought to the attention of your GP or local A&E Department.

Confidentiality

All information provided by clients is held with privacy and confidentiality, abiding by GDPR (2016) requirements. There will be no disclosure of information shared without express permission of the client or as required by law.  The limits to confidentiality extend to any concerns of harm/safety to the client or others. Such information may be shared with relevant professionals as required by law.

Booking an Appointment

Clients can book their appointments directly.  You are expected to attend regular sessions as agreed.  We require a minimum 24 hour notice for cancellation and reschedule requests. Appointments that are cancelled in less than 24 hours will require full payment.

Sometimes appointments are available to book directly through the website.  You will be asked to complete essential referral information with your booking.  You can make a request for an appointment using the Request Form.  Please get in touch with any of your questions.

Fees & Cancellation

The fee for individual appointments is €95 per 60 minute session (both online and in-person). This fee may be eligible for health insurance claims, depending on your specific plan.  EMDR sessions may be scheduled for 90 minute sessions as per best practice guidelines with an additional fee.

Appointments can be rescheduled with a minimum of 24 hours notice. Appointments that are cancelled in less than 24 hours require full payment.

Online Therapy

Online services are provided through interactive internet technologies where we are not in the same physical room together.

There are both pros and cons to online therapy services. As we are not in the same physical room you are expected to ensure you can create a safe space. This safe space is one where you can engage in the sessions in a confidential and honest manner.  Not being in the same physical space means a lack of access to information that might be available and may result in errors of judgement. A comprehensive assessment of needs is not provided. Online services are provided using a videoconferencing platform that is GDPR and HIPAA compliant.

“Before every session, I take a moment to remember my humanity. There is no experience that you have that I cannot share with you, no fear that I cannot understand, no suffering that I cannot care about, because I too am human.

No matter how deep your wound, you do not need to be ashamed in front of me. I too am vulnerable. And because of this, I am enough. Whatever your story, you no longer need to be alone with it.

This is what will allow the healing to begin.”
