Antidote to the inner-critic

I heard this poem recently, read by Mark Coleman at Spirit Rock in the states.  Let the words wash over you and through you, an antidote to the those constant judging and comparing thoughts that may swirl about day to day.  Be kind and gentle with ourselves and others today. If you would grow to your best self Be patient, not demanding Accepting, not condemning Nurturing, not withholding Self-marveling, not belittling Gently guiding, not pushing and punishing For you are more sensitive than you know Mankind is as tough as war yet delicate as flowers We can endure agonies but…

Remembering the power of simply being.

"Draw alongside the silence of stone Until its calmness can claim you. Be excessively gentle with yourself.   Stay clear of those vexed in spirit. Learn to linger around someone of ease Who feels they have all the time in the world.   Gradually you will return to yourself, Having learned a new respect for your heart And the joy that dwells far within slow time."   - John O'Donohue, A Blessing for One who is Exhausted.    These words stopped me in my tracks today.  Sometimes words have that power to bring us back to remember what matters.  To…

Why retreat?

Reading Sylvia Boorsteins's: Don't just do something, sit there - I am inspired to remember the value of periodic retreats. Paraphrasing Sylvia and integrating with my own ponderings: So why practice 'in seclusion' rather than 'in the midst of life'? Inspiring words … the time is now …

I love those moments that wake me up from an overthinking-everplanning loop!  Here's a share for today ... Today a poem from Oriah Mountain Dreamer, The Call, stopped me in my tracks... these words resonated especially ...   " ... There is nowhere to go.  What you are looking for is right here.   Open the fist clenched in wanting and see what you already hold in your hand.     There is no waiting for something to happen, no point in the future to get to.   All you have ever longed for is here in this moment, right now.   …

Surrender to what is

Allow - a poem by Danna Faulds   "There is no controlling life. Try corralling a lightning bolt, containing a tornado. Dam a stream and it will create a new channel.  Resist, and the tide will sweep you off your feet.  Allow, and the grace will carry you to higher ground. The only safety lies in letting in all in - the wild and the weak; fear, fantasies, failures and success. When loss rips off the doors of the heart, or sadness veils your vision with despair, practice becomes simply bearing the truth.  In the choice to let go of your…
